When TMZ released footage that claimed alleged abuse, people promised to boycott “A Dog’s Purpose.” In response, the red carpet premiere of the movie has been cancelled.

It’s no surprise that Universal Pictures, the distributor of “ A Dog’s Purpose,” has opted to delay the movie’s premiere and press junket scheduled for this weekend.

It’s going to be hard to move forward with a film that “celebrates the relationship between humans and animals” when leaked footage from the set seems to show a German Shepherd being forced against his will into a pool set up to resemble churning rapids.

Amid allegations of animal cruelty and further comments by animal activists and lovers, Universal has stepped back the promo for the “feel good” movie, opting for a soft opening.

In a carefully worded statement, Universal and Amblin Entertainment commented: “While we are all disheartened by the appearance of an animal in distress, everyone has assured us that Hercules the German Shepherd was not harmed throughout the filmmaking.”
