It’s National Coffee Day! Grounds & Hounds Coffee is giving 20% of their proceeds to local dog charities, and has shared some yummy with us to get the blood(hounds) moving!

I love my coffee. If I am honest, I don’t necessarily love the taste of coffee as much as I love the ritual of coffee. Nice and warm on a cold fall morning…ahhh…the best way to start most every day! I’ve learned that I am a slow caffeine metabolizer (the things you learn when you are bored and get your 23 & Me report!) so coffee makes me even happier and jollier than most when I drink it. Gulp, gulp my friends.

Know what also makes me happy? Companies that share their love with animals…like Grounds & Hounds Coffee. When CEO and founder Jordan Karcher adopted his Dalmatian Molly, he decided he was going to make an impact on his community. More, he was going to help us make an impact on ours, and gives a percentage of profit to local dog charities.

They have the coolest zip code locator on their site, and when you buy from them, they donate to the charity partner closest to you–you get to actually see the difference being made as you drink the magical morning elixir that is coffee.

And, in honor of National Coffee Day, they are sharing some yummy coffee recipes with us!

If you’re like me, and can’t let summer go, you may like this iced coffee. Grounds & Hounds representative Meghan Gumer says the most important step in any coffee is to select high-quality beans. Grounds & Hounds uses a fair-trade, organic specialty coffee from some of the best coffee-growing regions in the world, so you know you’ll have a great drink that is sustainable and treats humans well.

Once selected, use a full 12 oz. size bag of coffee. Grind the coffee (if you have beans), and then immerse grounds in a large french press. Strain the grounds through an almond nut milk bag and then cover and let sit at room temperature for 12 hours. They recommend playing a few rounds of fetch with your favorite furry best friend while you wait! Once you’ve let it sit, drain the cold brew into a sealable container, dilute and enjoy! They recommend a ratio of 1 part brew to 3 parts filtered water over ice, but if you need it stronger, you can certainly add more. Less water if you need lighter. The remaining brew will stay fresh in the refrigerator for two or more weeks of yummy!

If you happen to be one of those people who like pumpkin (blech!)–they’ve got a recipe for you too!

They recommend their Alpha Blend Dark Roast (or another strong brew blend) for this. Take 1/4 cup of fresh brew and add 1 cup of Almond milk, 2 tablespoons of pure pumpkin puree, a tablespoon of turbinado sugar, 1/4 tsp. of pumpkin pie spice and 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract as ingredients. Mix the almond milk, pumpkin puree, sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Vent the bowl with three small holes while you microwave the milk blend until it is hot. Whisk it until it’s nice and foamy. Then pour the foam into your freshly brewed Alpha Blend as a latte. If you prefer, you can also add whipped cream and sprinkle the pumpkin pie spice on the cream instead.

Pick a nice, sunny spot for you and your favorite pooch, and make sure to leave the latte mustache for all to see and know what you’re enjoying!
