Geico has tickled the doggy-lover’s funny bone once again, featuring beloved Officer McGruff the Crime Dog getting a bit of good-natured ribbing by his colleagues.

It’s a sick day in my house–my little guy is home from school with whatever icky stuff is going around because the weather cannot make up its flipping mind, and all of a sudden I hear the familiar voice of Officer McGruff the Crime Dog.

McGruff was created as part of a National Crime Prevention campaign to increase awareness about crime and personal safety in the United States in 1979. If you grew up in the 70s and 80s like I did, you were very familiar with Officer McGruff telling you to watch out for bullies, stay away from strangers and just say, “No!” to drugs.

Which is why I literally laughed out loud at the Geico commercial featuring the beloved canine crime-fighter–even though if we’re honest, McGruff’s colleagues were a bit bully-like themselves!

In the video, McGruff urgently approaches his colleagues about a lead, and they use some hilarious ‘baby talk’ to ask him if he has a ‘tippy wippy.’ As McGruff gets visbily frustrated, and the ribbing continues, another colleague comes and ask if he has to go ‘Tinky poopie!’

My son and I cackled at poor McGruff’s disgust with being treated like such a dirty old dog, and the spokesperson came on telling us that as long as people talk ‘baby talk’ to dogs, we can count on Geico to save people money.

Considering that people talk baby talk to their dogs more and more, and now research even suggests that promotes bonding, seems like Geico is going to be saving people money for a mighty.long.time!
