A true rags-to-riches story, one-of-a-kind mutt Rami is using his uniqueness to raise awareness for shelter dogs.

It started as a dog-gone love story.

A Romeo and Juliet “tail” of forbidden love between a Pitbull and a Dachshund that culminated in, well, take a look for yourself:

Rami, the resultant hybrid-love child has become a media sensation, garnering more than 5,000 likes on his self-titled Facebook page and driving the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society’s Facebook site into a viral frenzy by wannabe adoptive parents.

But this once abandoned good ole boy from rural Georgia has found both home and purpose, becoming the shelter’s ambassador while at the same time studying hard to become a certified therapy dog. It’s expected the vertically challenged Rami’s rags to riches story will inspire prospective parents to consider shelter pets when going through the adoption process.

Are you heartbroken that Rami isn’t up for adoption any more? Then check out Rolly, who was a recent Adoptable Dog of the Week, and bears the distinction of being a Boxer/Dachshund mix!

And it’s already working – thanks to his popularity the shelter has been keeping busy with increased adoptions. Rami, we’re so glad things turned out for you. We know that you’ll that wherever you go, you’ll not only attract stares, but hope, smiles and attention for a wonderful cause!
