Sleepypod Pet Carriers Earn Top Honors from the Center for Pet Safety

You’re traveling down the open road with your fur friend in the back seat, nothing could be better! As summer is in full swing, many pet parents are taking their four-legged loved ones out on vacay with them. As long as your dog likes car rides, traveling with them can be great fun. However, a dog can’t travel with the same ease a person can. Airbags, seatbelts, and distracted driving are all things to consider when taking your fur kid on the road. Having a dog travel in a vehicle with you can be an extremely positive experience, but precautions must be taken in order to ensure their safety. But how safe are these dog travel safety products? How are they tested and who were they tested by? You may be surprised to learn that the bulk of dog travel products haven’t met the standards of the Center for Pet Safety.

The Center for Pet Safety (CPS) is an independent and registered 501(c)(3) non-profit research and advocacy organization dedicated to companion animal and consumer safety. They’ve put a fair share of dog travel products through their paces, and few have come out unscathed on the other side. But consistently beating the odds is SleepyPod, and they’ve passed the CPS’s new critical crash testing guidelines. The products from their latest line received 5 stars for their pet protection capabilities in vehicles. This certification is voluntary for manufacturers to participate in to get an absolutely independent evaluation. The products must stand up to a very strict testing process to ensure top quality and performance.

“Sleepypod carriers have transformed how pet owners travel with their pets,” says lead product designer and Sleepypod co-founder, Michael Leung. “As more pet owners take their pets with them on vacation, errands, and to work, Sleepypod carriers offer ease of use, maximum comfort, and proven safety when traveling in cars.”

While traveling with Fido, the pet carriers (available in a vast array of colors to fit your style) attach securely to the seat to make sure your pet is snug and buckled in. As pets should always be secured in the car and not allowed to roam freely, the carrier makes perfect sense! This carrier is perfect for the pet parent who wants to make sure their pup has the best (and safest) car experience possible. Pets should also be kept in the backseat to prevent injuries from airbags much like small children, and the carrier locks in perfectly to the backseat, though it can also attach to the front seat for two-seat cars.

When traveling with your pet, it is also important to keep them hydrated and to take breaks for them to stretch their legs. This relaxes them and prevents them from getting too worked up. The proper food, toys, and medications your dog needs should be packed, as well as a first aid kit in case of emergencies. Pets should also be kept in climate controlled environments as cars may become very hot very quickly and experience heat stress. With safety on your side, why not enjoy a trip with your dog? Sleepypod has you covered.
