You can say that this shelter has balls! We love the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue motto: “Saving badass dogs from idiot humans.”

Animal shelters exist in cities and towns all over the world, each with their own unique mission. The Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is a little bit different because they rescue dogs from the worst situations and they follow the motto, “Saving badass dogs from idiot humans”.

About the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue

The Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is a non-profit network made up of fosters, rescuers, and volunteers who all work together to rescue, rehabilitate and place adoptable dogs in the rural southern United States. This organization rescues dogs from high-kill, rural animal shelters in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and West Virginia, saving them from imminent death. It is unfortunate but true that many pounds and animal control facilities in the south use inhumane practices to euthanize unwanted animals and many of them have kill rates over 90 percent. That is what the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue seeks to remedy.

This organization is committed not only to rescuing dogs from inhumane situations and high-kill shelters, but they are dedicated to rehabilitating those dogs and to finding them a loving forever home. All dogs that come to the shelter are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm, treated for fleas and ticks, and dewormed by private local veterinarians. In addition to vaccinating their dogs, the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue also treats the dogs for a variety of illnesses and makes sure that they get surgical treatment in cases where it is necessary. After treatment, the dogs stay with local fosters for at least two weeks to ensure that they are healthy enough for travel. When they are ready for adoption, the shelter is diligent about finding the right match – they require adopters to provide three personal references and a vet reference – they must also complete a home visit.

How Can You Help to Support This Shelter?

Because the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, they are always in need of monetary donations. All funds go directly toward the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of badass dogs. Donations of money are always appreciated, but you can also give the gift of your time by volunteering at the shelter or by fostering a dog. You can use the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue website to give a one-time monetary gift or to give on a monthly basis. The website also provides information about volunteering in a number of ways including helping out around the shelter, transporting dogs to and from vet visits, walking or training dogs, and participating in community outreach events. You can, of course, even adopt a dog from the shelter yourself or, if you cannot care for a dog yourself you can sponsor a dog, paying the adoption fee to encourage someone else to adopt the dog instead.

There are countless animal shelters around the country but the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue sets itself apart from the rest by taking in animals from the worst possible situations. If you have a heart for animals and are looking for a way to give back, consider donating to the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue.
