It’s been said that a dog’s eyes speak a thousand words, but for a rescue dog who was nearly euthanized, we think his breakout picture speaks millions.

In Columbus, Ohio, a sweet beagle named Gregory is tasting what miracles feel like, as he just found freedom right before he was scheduled to be euthanized.

‘Gregory’ was rescued by the Hound Rescue and Sanctuary, just two days before he was to be put down, and Schenley Kirk, who runs the rescue with her husband Joe posted a picture of Gregory’s ‘freedom’ ride that’s since gone viral.

The picture shows Gregory cuddling up against her husband as they drove away from the Franklin County Dog Shelter he’d been in. Joe Kirk drove two hours to rescue Gregory and he said when they first met, it was like they’d been friends for years.

All evidenced in the adorable picture his wife posted, showing Gregory snuggling up to his rescuer, with a look of gratitude that speaks volumes. She said that originally she wasn’t thrilled because they usually crate their rescues as they travel, but Joe said that Gregory just needed to be near him and cuddled up to Joe the entire ride home.

The couple says that Gregory’s reaction and gratitude for being rescued is why they continue to rescue dogs–helping save the lives of dogs in need. They say that there is nothing better than the love and appreciation that rescue dogs give back, and Gregory’s reaction to a new lease on life makes it all worthwhile.

We agree. I mean, just look at that goofy grin!
