Excela Health-Westmoreland in Greensburg, PA, has put together a video of one of their adorable therapy dogs Canon, and the video shows a day in the life of a therapy dog from his perspective.

Canon is one of 30 volunteer therapy dogs who is trained and registered to bring lots of wags and love to the patients in the system’s three hospitals and outpatient centers, and a GoPro camera attached to him during a typical day at Latrobe Hospital showed that it’s pretty great to be a therapy dog!
While Pet Therapy Coordinator at Excela Marilyn Daniels says that research shows therapy dogs help lower blood pressure, respiration rates and perception of pain, watching the video shows they also bring immeasurable smiles and affection. I mean, how cute is the little boy in the video giving Canon a happy dance of his own?

According to Daniels, she’s seen patients ring call buttons to ask for more pain medication, but then completely forget about their pain in the interim as they pet therapy dogs like Canon. Daniels says the staff enjoys having the dogs around as much as the patients do, and judging by all the pets and love Canon gets on a daily basis, it’s easy to see why they are excited. The 8-year-old English Springer gives patients and staff alike some bright spots in the day in return for some belly rubs, and it’s a win-win for all!
Just watch the video and see for yourself!
