There’s been so many sad stories about the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. But here’s a happier one–Actor Liev Schreiber decided to make a difference in the lives of two shelter puppies!

When actor Liev Schreiber appeared on the “Live With Kelly and Ryan” show this week, he told them he was a little put out that the show’s producers were adopting several of the dogs displaced by Hurricane Harvey scheduled to appear on the show. He was only half joking.

The dogs were fostered by Home For Good Dog Rescue after being saved from the flooding of Harvey, and were going to raise awareness about the need for help for other animals. Schreiber got to know a few dogs backstage before he made his appearance.

The actor told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that his son had been asking for a dog, and they had the perfect one for him but their producers were planning to adopt him. The talk-show hosts got right to adoption business, with Seacrest implying that the odds of Schreiber ending up with the pup were pretty good.

Look what I just got. Couple of orphans from Houston checking out the Big Apple for the first time. Thank you

Turns out they were. Schreiber video-chatted with his ex-wife Naomi Watts and their sons Sasha and Kai and arranged with the producers to take not one but two of the rescued puppies back home with him. The male was named Woody, and his sister left without a name, but with a famous family, so we figure she’ll get one soon enough!
