Westminster Kennel Club Pairs With Pratt Institute for Annual Art Cont

What do you get when you combine talented artists and The Westminster Kennel Club? An art contest that awards a $10,000 first place prize!


The Westminster Kennel Club and Pratt Institute are pairing up for their annual art contest for students and alumni, and one talented winner will receive $10,000! Five additional finalists will also be recipients of $1,000 each. Pratt Institute students are heralded as artists, designers, and architects who pour their passion into expression, and he Westminster Kennel Club passionately promotes responsibility among dog owners for the good of dogs.

The collaboration hopes to promote dogs in art together for many years to come, and will combine the winning pieces of art to create the Official Program cover and notecards for the upcoming 142nd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog show that will be held in February 2018. The combination will also become a commemorative poster.


During Westminster Week, Purina Pro Plan will sponsor all events, and three national breed clubs will receive equal portions from a $15,000 donation for their rescue efforts. This is an increase of $5,000 from previous’ years donations to rescue groups. The donation will be to help the rescues with expenses like vet care, transportation, feeding and grooming, among other things, and the clubs receiving the donations will receive their checks during the Show (Feb. 12-13) at Madison Square Garden.

Applications for recognized national breed clubs to the AKC have a deadline of September 30, and Westminster will choose the breed club recipients based on specific needs and eligibility requirements.
