Turn on your TV and help Clear the Shelters. Nationwide pet adoption campaign aims to help thousands of homeless pets find their forever homes this Saturday.

Are you looking for a new best friend? The “Clear the Shelters” super pet adoption campaign starts this Saturday, July 23, 2016. Every home should have a pet, and every pet should have a home, so adoption is a win-win scenario for animals and the people who love them. Longtime advocates of shelter animal welfare, Petco is partnering with 600 animal shelters across the US with the help of NBCUniversal to get pets into loving homes.

Petco has an incredible history with rescue advocacy: “at Petco, we’ve been committed to helping save animal lives through pet adoption for more than 50 years,” said Brad Weston, president of the company. “We’re proud to be part of this lifesaving event and looking forward to helping more animal lovers become great pet parents by providing everything they need to create happy, healthy homes for their new family members.”

Petco realises the importance of considering adoption when looking for a pet, as rescue dogs can give just as much love as any other. After all, who doesn’t regard “rescued” as their favorite breed? Petco has launched several initiatives to put rescues in the limelight including their “Think Adoption First” campaign. This campaign aims to “Increase the number of pets adopted into loving homes, Decrease the number of pets in shelters nationwide, Encourage pet parents to consider adopting before purchasing a pet of any kind, and Provide pet parents with all of the tools, services and advice that they need to help them live a longer, fuller, happier life with their pets.”

Petco and NBCUniversal’s dream to no longer have a need for animal shelters may become a reality. Last year’s successful event sparked 20,000 pet adoptions, emptying quite a few shelter’s occupancy rates in the process. 20,000 lives were saved, and that’s just the animals! Countless human lives were touched and improved by the companionship a loving pet provides. It’s really a “who rescued who” situation.

“We are thrilled to have the support of Petco for our second annual Clear the Shelters nationwide pet adoption campaign,” said Bruce Kallner, Sr. VP of Marketing for NBCUniversal. “Petco’s commitment to the well-being of all pets will help the NBC and Telemundo-owned stations, and our partner animal shelters, execute another successful campaign this year.”

Petco is upping the ante this year, providing information packets along with pet food samples and advice for new pet owners. Their goal is to make the pet adoption process as smooth as possible. The fun doesn’t stop there, Natalie Morales will personally host a special featuring the drive on July 29th that will air on NBCUniversal and it’s affiliates. The TODAY and Access Hollywood anchor is a huge supporter of adopting rescue dogs, as she famously adopted her pup, Zara, after meeting the dog on set.
