This sweet little pooch is looking for her furever home! Our Adoptable Dog of the Week is Luna, a 2 and a half years old Chihuahua and Dachshund mix from Pittsboro, North Carolina. She has been spayed and microchipped and she is up to date on vaccines and preventative medications. Luna is a sweet and friendly dog that gets along well with other dogs, cats, and older children.

Luna’s Tale

When Luna was rescued, she was very pregnant- and gave birth to her puppies in foster care. She weaned her babies off, seen them go into furever homes, and now it’s time for mama to get the happy ending she deserves. Not much is known about her previous life, but it’s clear that it’s been less than ideal: she is still a bit shy and needs time to warm up to new people.

Once she feels she can trust you, Luna turns into the sweetest cuddle bug. She’s affectionate and kind and will shower you with love. Couch and bedtime cuddles are her favorite pastime! Luna loves sleeping with her peeps (warning though, she does snore a lot) and starting the day with snuggles and smooches.

Luna is housetrained, walks well on the leash and behaves when driving around in a car. She does well with dog-savvy cats and loves friendly dogs- in fact, her rescuers recommend she goes into a home where there’s another pooch, so they could help Luna build up confidence. While Luna is good with kids, it’s best if they are over 12 years of age.

Ideally, Luna would go to a home with a fenced-in yard, where she could sunbathe and explore her new kingdom. If you think that you could give her the life she deserves, contact Chatham Animal Rescue and Education (CARE) for more information about the adoption process.

A proud mama to seven dogs and ten cats, Angela spends her days writing for her fellow pet parents and pampering her furballs, all of whom are rescues. When she's not gushing over her adorable cats or playing with her dogs, she can be found curled up with a good fantasy book.
