A big boy with a big heart, this cute fella will shower you with love! Our Adoptable Dog of the Week is Speckles, a 4 year old Labrador Retriever mix from Austin, Texas. He is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and ready for a new home. Speckles would do best as an only pet in an adult-only household.

Speckles’ Tale

Cute as a button and full of love, this pooch is a master snuggler and real cuddle bug; once he gets to know you, you’ll see what a gentle giant he really is. Of course, at first, he will be wary as he needs some time to warm up with strangers, but once you “click”, you’ll have a best friend for life. Speckles will always be by your side, tail wagging, ready for some belly rubs and ear scratches!

At the shelter, Speckles has been through Total Obedience Program training, and as a TOP trainee, he’s learned some basic commands such as sit or walking on a leash, so you won’t have your hands full with him. He is a well-mannered pooch that will fit right in with a single owner or a couple that will pamper him as he deserves. Speckles can sometimes play well with other dogs, but he is very picky about his furry friends so he would do best as the only pet in the household (he hasn’t been tested around cats, though). Due to his size, his rescuers don’t recommend him for a home with young children- he could inadvertently knock over a toddler in play. Speckles is a fantastic choice for an adult-only family, particularly those that want a devoted companion for all their life’s adventures.

A proud mama to seven dogs and ten cats, Angela spends her days writing for her fellow pet parents and pampering her furballs, all of whom are rescues. When she's not gushing over her adorable cats or playing with her dogs, she can be found curled up with a good fantasy book.
