A bounty of berries in every bite of this dog treat recipe!

This warm weather is berry beautiful! Gone is the brown grass and barren trees, and in its place are green buds and bright blooms. One of my favorite pastimes when I was a kid was going strawberry picking – I’m sure I ate more than we took home! And it wasn’t just strawberries that I loved. Fresh blueberries, blackberries and raspberries were welcome guests in my cereal and ice cream bowl all season long. Berry season isn’t just for people – it’s for dogs, too. All of the sweet berries I listed above pack a healthy punch for dogs as well. Plus, they mix perfectly in my Berry Wholesome Dog Treat Recipe!

Berry Wholesome Dog Treat Recipe

Makes about 40-50 treats

Ingredients:

2 cups assorted berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries)

1 small banana

1/2 cup almond milk

1 cup oat flour

½ cup oats

2 cups whole wheat flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a blender or food processor, add banana, berries and almond milk, and puree until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Add flours and oats into a large bowl. Combine well.
  4. Add berry and banana mixture to dry ingredients. Stir until thoroughly combined. The dough will be sticky!
  5. Place small ball of dough on parchment paper surface or counter. Spray rolling pin with cooking oil to prevent dough from sticking. Roll out to ¼ inch thickness and cut with desired cookie cutter. Place on cookie sheets. Repeat until all the dough is used up.
  6. Place in oven and bake for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Take cookies out of oven and let cool on cooling racks. Store in air tight container in refrigerator or freezer.
