Make a Local Doggy Play Date With the BarkHappy App
A recently launched app called BarkHappy wants to connect dog owners to other local pooch parents, and response has been off the woof!
Now, we know what you’re thinking. no, this isn’t a four-legged version of Tinder, because it has nothing to do with matching your dog up with a potential mate. Rather, this gives dog lovers the opportunity to find other dogs around the area that may be fun play dates for their own furry child.
The Austin,Texas-based startup was founded by Ninis Samuel, whose resume includes managerial positions at Microsoft and Nokia. BarkHappy was founded in July of 2015 and launched about two months ago in Portland and Seattle.
Sure, you can make the trek to the dog park and hope there are friendly dogs around there, but maybe you aren’t 100 percent sure if other dogs will be friendly towards your Pomeranian. Or perhaps you’d prefer a laid back approach, where you’d like find another dog owner to sit and chat with at a local dog-friendly cafe while your pooches cuddle it out.
Whatever your preference, BarkHappy has your back. The app uses your smartphone’s GPS to help dog parents connect. You’ll set up a profile that includes information such as your dog’s age, breed, and how well they do with big and small dogs, which is used to connect you to other similar pups. It also displays information like local dog-friendly restaurants, bars, hotels and parks to make your meet-up as easy as possible.
BarkHappy is already working with Portland and Seattle business to host weekly events, where the company partners with charities such as Seattle’s Humane Society and Emerald City Pet Rescue.
Sadly, BarkHappy is only functioning in Austin, Seattle and Portland. We really hope this app expands to include a host of other cities, as it would be a great tool to use in order to socialize more with lovable dogs and the people who love them!
