Choosing Flavors Your Pet Loves

Most people think that dogs would eat just about anything you offer – or they manage to beg from you. While that’s not false, there are certain flavors dogs prefer, and if your pet is a picky eater, you know how difficult it can be to find nutritious food that they’ll want to eat. Dogs have fewer taste buds than we do, but research indicates that dogs still favor one type of food over the other – in this case, beef and pork seem to be a bigger hit with picky canines than chicken or lamb.

But figuring out which flavor is your dog’s favorite is not always an easy task, even with research on your side. Sometimes, choosy dogs can go as far as to go on a hunger strike, putting their owners in a sticky situation, where the main question becomes – who will give in first? Here’s what you should do if your pet doesn’t want to eat what you put in their bowl.

Reasons Why Your Pet Doesn’t Eat Regularly

When a dog suddenly stops eating, there can be a few reasons behind it, but it’s usually one of these:

●     They have a health problem

●     Their routine has changed

●     They don’t like the taste/texture of their food

If you eliminate possible underlying medical issues for your pet’s loss of appetite with your veterinarian (which is the first thing to do), it narrows down to two things. Dogs are a big fan of routine and if you’ve switched the place where you are feeding them dinner or changed mealtime – it’s highly likely that they’re boycotting the changes, so all you have to do is switch back to the schedule/place they are comfortable with.

However, if you haven’t made any changes to your pet’s mealtime routine, it might be the food that’s the issue. It might have gone bad without you noticing, the manufacturer could have changed the formula, or it can be a matter of palate exhaustion. This happens when a dog eats the same food (or protein) repeatedly until they grow so tired of it that they simply can’t eat a bite of it anymore. It might be a time for a much-needed change in their diet!

How You Can Give Your Pet Nutritious Food They’ll Actually Love

Finding pet food that is tasty yet actually good for your pet’s health can be a bit of a challenge. Sometimes, just like us humans, dogs can gravitate to “junk foods” of the pet world (simply because they are pumped with flavor enhancers) and avoid nutritious foods that can have a bland taste in comparison.

Luckily, you don’t have to compromise on taste or nutritional value anymore – your pet can have it all. Wellness CORE® bridges the gap between the two, developing wholesome, nutrient and protein-packed foods, treats, and toppers that are available in various taste profiles. Nutrient-dense with protein and superfoods, this line of pet food is big on flavor – there’s something for every picky pet, whether it’s beef, chicken, fish, or even wild game that excites your pet’s picky palate.
