Come Easter, there’s a new bunny in town…or at least an adorable, two-legged dog named Lieutenant Dan hopes there will be!

What’s Easter without a bunny? That’s what Cadbury, makers of the famous chocolate egg, wants to know. They put out a casting call for any pets who had dreams of making it big as the next Cadbury Easter Bunny, and a sweet coonhound from Richmond, Ohio, is one of the ten finalists.

Meet Lieutenant Dan from New Richmond, OH. This big personality loves to show off and can’t help but make others smile and feel inspired whenever he’s around them. In his spare time, he loves to wrestle, run, hike, and swim. He unwinds after a long day with a classic treat – peanut butter! Visit the link in bio for official rules.

Lieutenant Dan, named after the iconic haracter in Forrest Gump, is a sweet coonhound who lost his legs just after he was born. In the movie, Lt. Dan’s character lost his legs in combat, and true to his name, Lt. Dan the Dog doesn’t let a little thing like missing limbs get in the way of him living life in a big way.

Lt. Dan joins a mini-horse, a pig, a hamster, two cats and a llama as finalists in the running to be the star of the candy brand’s famous commercial that features a clucking ‘bunny.’ Cadbury started the promotion 30 years ago, and the winner not only gets to star in the television commercial, but wins a $5,000 price too. As well, Cadbury will donate $10,000 to the ASPCA in the lucky ‘bunny’s’ name.

Lt. Dan’s adorable picture has him donning some pretty sweet bunny ears, but we have to admit—as cute as he is, the competition is pretty hard-core.

Dilly Bar Dabbler does a convincing job…

As does Ducksong the Pig, from Daytona Beach.

Donald Ducky’s Bunny Ears are almost as big as he is…

While Conswala the Llama’s bonnet says she is TOTALLY here for the drama.

And we seriously can’t stop laughing at how very clearly thrilled Lunchbox the Rescue cat looks to be in the running!

They’re all so stinking cute, it’d be pretty tough for anyone to decide. That’s why for the first time ever, you can vote for the ‘Bunny’ of your choice on Cadbury’s site. Voting runs until March 19, and the winner will be chosen by March 23.

Last year’s winner was Henri the bulldog.

Ironically, no actual bunnies made the finalist cut!

Good luck to all the contestants. We try not to be biased here at Petguide because all pets are good boys and girls, but…we have to be honest. We think Lt. Dan is the man, dog, bunny for the job!
