Paws Up For National Pet Day
Happy National Pet Day! April 11 is National Pet Day – so what does that mean? Do pets get to take the day off (with pay, of course?) At PetGuide, our pets are part of the family, and we know that you feel the same way, too. That’s why we’ll be celebrating this very special holiday.
National Pet Day was founded in 2005 by Colleen Paige, a pet, family and lifestyle expert and writer. The point of this day is to actively celebrate the awesomeness that pets bring into our lives each and every day. As well, she wants to create awareness about all the animals that are waiting to become pets as they wait for forever homes in shelters. Unfortunately, millions of these animals will be put down before ever finding a home. But even if you can’t adopt an animal, you can donate to a local shelter, with time, money or donations.
If you have a pet, celebrate National Pet Day with them. Make them cupcakes or special treats, buy them a new toy, go for an extra-long walk, give them a massage or give them a hug and tell them how much you love them. Now that’s how you celebrate a holiday!

Her love of animals began in kindergarten, when she brought her stuffed dog Snoopy into class with her every day. Now, she writes about her adventures in pet ownership and tirelessly researches products, news and health related issues she can share with other animal enthusiasts. In her free time, Amy loves perusing used book and record stores, obsessing over the latest pet products available and chasing squirrels with wild abandon (a habit attributed to spending too much time with her pooches).
