If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to keep your dog in tip-top shape, the Hachiko Smart Dog Tracker is like having your own canine personal trainer!

Everybody understands the benefits of an active lifestyle: you move faster, react quicker and feel better overall. From treadmills to ellipticals, technology has always been on par with our busy lives to make being active that much easier. The introduction of the FitBit was no different: it’s a tiny piece of technology that easily disguises itself as a bracelet to make sure we’re moving to keep us active, fit and happy.

If that’s the case, why should we treat our dogs any differently?

Introducing the Hachiko Smart Dog Tracker: it’s like a FitBit, but for dogs! This small round device easily attaches to your dog’s collar or harness and monitors your pooch’s daily activities so you know they got the most out of their day.

The Hachiko does more than measure how many steps your dog has taken during your daily morning walks. You can also monitor how much food, water and sleep they get a day with the downloadable application. The Hachicko would completely eliminate the probability that my Kika would be accidentally fed more than once in a span of two hours (yes, this has happened on more than one occasion). After a quick look at the Hachiko app, I could confidently tell her “Relax, it was 30 minutes since your last meal” without second-guessing myself. It’s hard to resist those large, Dachshund-esque eyes of hers which forever beg for food.

Along with knowing when they last ate, the Hachiko also has another great use: have you ever wondered if your dog walker actually goes out and walks your pooch for those 30 minutes a day they promised (and you’re paying them for)? With the app, you can see where your dog has walked on a map while you’re working away on that long report due at the end of the day.

The app has a myriad of other neat little features, including one which allows you to set goals for your furry child. If your dog (and, let’s face it, maybe you, too) aren’t as active as you’d like to be, you can set how many steps or walks you’d like to have a day and work towards that goal. It’s only fair that the walker shares the same goals as your pooch, especially if it means getting up at 6 a.m. for that power walk before work. The app also connects you to a community of other dog parents who can keep you motivated while offering exercise and fitness tips to help you stay engaged.

Currently, the Hachicko app does not have a function to track more than one dog; however it does plan to add that into its system soon. This tracker does allow you to have more than one person tracking the same dog. This means if your teenager comes home and realizes Fido hasn’t been on a walk yet after checking the app, she can do her part to keep the four-legged member of the family healthy. She can also see if the dog has been given its medication, which leaves less room for error and keeps your pooch safe.

Available for approximately $40, this tracker is available in four high-fashion colors including pearl white, fuchsia pink, tangerine orange and sky blue. This device is waterproof and made of hard polycarbonate shell so you can rest assured it won’t break if Fido decides to roll around in a puddle of mud or roughhouses with another pooch during one of your walks.
