When you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go.

Such was the plight of Nemo, the two-year-old black Labrador-Griffon mix of French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron was being filmed as he was in the midst of very important business with the Junior Minister for Planning Julien Denormandie and Junior Minister for Ecology Brune Poirson. Nemo was in the back of the group, ever-present near his daddy, who adopted him from a shelter in August.

Turns out Nemo’s rags to riches story plays out in his apparent lack of manners, as he lifted his leg and let go in the fireplace, right there as the group conducted their discussion.

It’s pretty impossible not to giggle at the video, and partially because the members of the meeting were also giggling, with Poirson asking wondering what that noise was, and Denormandie asking the president if Nemo’s urination was a regular occurrence.

Macron could only shake his head in laughter as well, telling the others that they’d triggered unusual (and very un-palace like!) behavior in his dog. Nemo is a prominent member of the president’s family, often appearing at both official and unofficial functions, and while it is a tradition for French presidents to get a Labrador while in office, Nemo’s legacy will be a tough act to live down, particularly because it was recorded for posterity.

Good thing, too, because I keep watching it over and over…can.not.stop.laughing!
