Actor Tom Hardy plays tough guys on the big screen, but in real life, he’s a big softie. Sadly, Hardy’s beloved dog Woody has passed, and his memorial tribute to him shows the depth of a man’s love for his best friend.

Tom Hardy is well known for some intense roles, but one we love him most for is that of devoted dog dad. He’s one of our favorite Bedtime Story readers, and that he has taken his dog Woody with him to sets and premieres just because he’s so dear to Tom makes us swoon.

Reading his heartfelt words to his social media followers letting them know his sweet dog Woody passed from an aggressive form of polymyositis three days ago pretty much breaks our hearts for him and with him.

Hardy shared several touching videos he created on his social media sites, and wrote that Woody (short for Woodstock) was the best dog in the world, and that he was completely gutted without him by his side. Though Hardy was thankful Woody was no longer suffering, he clearly feels the very big void that his special dog left.

Hardy rescued Woody from a suburb outside of Atlanta, Georgia, when he saw a scared and pitiful puppy run through the dark of night on a busy highway. Hardy wrote on his Tumblr page that he couldn’t bare to watch because he knew the dog was going to suffer a terrible death, but when he didn’t, and ran to Hardy’s safe arms, it was a forever bond.

Hardy called Woody his best friend and journey companion ever, and shared that though no longer together on this earth, their souls were intertwined forever. The various videos that show pictures of them together with poignant music move us, as they are heartfelt pictures of his devotion to Woody and Woody’s to him. Fans from all over the world have shared their grief with him.
